Development of a web search tool for lithostratigraphic units in Ecuador

Abstract

The aim of the present work is to develop the first lithostratigraphic unit search tool in Ecuador. The foundational framework for lithostratigraphic units is substantiated by scientific evidence provided by the Instituto de Investigación Geológico y Energético (IIGE) and its predecessor institutions. The search tool was developed in R programming environment, establishing parameters to identify characteristic patterns within the matrix of lithostratigraphic units. Moreover, the impact of the web application was methodically gauged through a survey targeting professionals specializing in regional geology and geological cartography. The results indicate widespread acceptance of the developed web application, with 100 % of surveyed professionals recommending its use.
