Physical-Chemical and mineralogical Characterization of natural Zeolite of Ecuador
Main Article Content
Abstract
Natural zeolites are one of the geological resources of great interest at an industrial level, due to their physycal and chemical sorption properties. In Ecuador there are some deposits of these materials, which have been exploited and are being given an important use in agriculture. In this study, four natural zeolites marketed in the country were characterized. The cation exchange capacity (CIC), neutralization potential (PN), semiquantitative analysis by X-ray diffraction and oxide-elemental analysis by X-ray fluorescence (FRX) were determined. The zeolites studied presented CIC from 123 to 198 cmolc Kg, being the Zeomagic sample the one with the highest exchange capacity. In all cases, the main mineral constituent is mordenite, which gives the properties of cation exchange to zeolites.
