Abstract
This research aims to identify the stratigraphic sequences that occur within the Intramontane Basin of Gonzanamá.
The study area is located in the Loja province, south of Ecuador, it is part of the Catamayo, Gonzanamá and Quilanga towns, geologically the Intramontane Basin of Gonzanamá exhibits a base of Oligocene age to which a sequence of sediments belonging to the Gonzanamá Formation.
The Gonzanamá Formation is characterized by three sedimentary members; A transitional sedimentary sequence deposited on the Oligocene basement occurs towards the base, in the intermediate part a sedimentary sequence typical of lake-swamp systems with carbonated sedimentation and, towards the top, a sedimentary sequence with an important volcanic contribution.
