GeoLatitud Scientific Journal, presents to the scientific and academic community and actors in the geological, mining and metallurgical sector, the first issue of the year 2023, which compiles an outstanding selection of articles that contribute to strengthening the study of earth sciences in Ecuador and the region.

This new issue features three scientific articles that address the following topics: "Regional hydrogeochemical mapping using surface water sampling from the Chancay- Lambayeque basin, Northern Peru: statistic processing and interpretation of anomalies"; "Study of the slopes of the creeping planes, on slopes made up of colluvial rocks, in the Negro River basin, Morona Santiago, Ecuador"; "Unraveling the tectonics of the scenery from the Cayo Formation Puerto Cayo, Ecuador".

The article "Regional hydrogeochemical mapping using surface water sampling from the Chancay-Lambayeque basin, Northern Peru: statistic processing and interpretation of anomalies", uses hydrogeochemistry as a mining exploration tool to obtain geochemical responses of water by its interaction with the surface and subsurface geological environment. The study defines new zones for mineral exploration using univariate, bivariate, multivariate (PCA) statistical methods, hydrogeochemical diagrams and geostatistical interpolation by ordinary kriging (OK).

The article "Study of the slopes of the creeping planes, on slopes made up of colluvial rocks, in the Negro River basin, Morona Santiago, Ecuador", proposes an empirical law to estimate the tangent of the angle formed by the mass movement planes with respect to the horizontal plane, under certain precipitation and flow conditions of the Negro river flowing at the foot of the slopes.

The article "Unraveling the tectonics of the scenery from the Cayo Formation Puerto Cayo, Ecuador" analyzes the geological structure of the outcrops of the Cayo Formation (Upper Cretaceous) in the area of Puerto Cayo, at the unconformity surface with the San Mateo Formation (Late Eocene), to understand the regional tectonics.

GeoLatitud, is a scientific journal published by the Instituto de Investigación Geológico y Energético, with biannual editions focused on Geology, Geotechnics, Mining  and Metallurgy. We invite the academic, scientific and industry-related community to participate through this medium, in the scientific dissemination of their research, with the common and sole purpose of promoting the development of Earth Sciences.
