The second 2020 issue of the GeoLatitud Scientific Journal, publishes scientific articles that contribute knowledge to the academic community of Ecuador and the region. The articles have been selected using the quality standards that GeoLatitud manages. In addition, they have the common characteristic of being relevant studies for earth sciences.

 

This new issue presents scientific articles that address the following topics:

 

The first called "Geometallurgical study of the benefit of gold in a mineral deposit in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes", which shows data from a polymetallic mineral deposit located in the vicinity of the municipality of California, Department of Santander, through estimated models.

 

The second, referring to "Study of the removal of cyanide with the use of a variety of biomass: A review" that presents a review of the alternatives of materials for the treatment of polluting residues of surface waters and soils, generated in the mining-metallurgical activity.

 

The subsidence mining methods are discussed in the article "A look at Block Caving" that analyzes the advantages and challenges involved in applying the underground mining method by the Block Caving variant. In addition, it addresses the importance of conducting comprehensive and complex studies that must be carried out prior to use.

 

Finally, the article called Geological-geotechnical investigation of the area of ​​subsidence of the soil in the Educational Unit "La Inmaculada Fe y Alegría" - City of Zaruma, shows the results of the investigations carried out both in the field, in the laboratory, and in the office, which defined the geotechnical parameters that characterize the various lithologies present in the area covered by the subsidence zone of the Educational Unit.

 

GeoLatitud is an annual scientific journal with biannual editions focused on Geology, Mining, and Metallurgy. We invite the academic, scientific, and sector-related community to share, through this medium, their experiences in research, with the common and sole purpose of promoting the development of Earth Sciences.
