In Ecuador, the electricity consumption of the commercial and public services sector has increased in recent years. This shows the importance of knowing the behavior of the building in order to reduce its consumption. This requires on-site data collection by qualified professionals with specialized equipment, which represents high costs. However, several studies have shown that from the analysis of electricity consumption, recorded in an hourly period or less taken by smart meters, it is possible to identify electricity saving measures. In this context, the present study applies a methodology to determine useful information on the operation and characteristics of public buildings on the Ecuadorian coast. Based on the information recorded by smart meters, in a period of five consecutive months. The methodology is made up of four stages: (1) data cleaning and filling, (2) time series decomposition, (3) generation of consumption profile and (4) identification of the temperature influence. the case studies analyzed are, the main building “Garzota” of CNEL EP, customer service agency “July 25” of CNEL EP, and the agency “Las Orquídeas” of CNT. The results showed that there is pre-cooling of spaces in CNEL EP buildings and represents 5% of the total electricity used, while prolonged shutdown reaches 10%. This is equivalent to spending approximately USD 1100 per month in the main building and USD 78 in the agency.
