Design Proposal for an Interconnected Cycle Lane to the Urban Public Transportation System, City of Ambato
Main Article Content
Abstract
Transportation planning in the center of the city of Ambato is a complex challenge since the center is a generator of trips and the increase in the number of vehicles has brought with it high rates of vehicle congestion, increased travel times, and high levels of pollution.
One of the strategies to mitigate these problems is to promote alternative means of transportation such as bicycles.
The objective of this research is to define a cycle line integrated into the urban public transport network, using the survey as a research tool.
The routes along which the cycle line is proposed were determined, establishing the speed of operation of the cycle line, road signs, and bicycle parking, which allow the cycle path to converge with the streets and avenues through which the Public Transportation System circulates.
This research has been analyzed from the environmental, economic, and social aspects, making its implementation feasible.
